Hi there,
Hmmmmm....that sounds pretty rough to stay up the whole night once you wake up. I don't know how that would get you into a regular sleep/wake schedule, but I'm not the specialist so you should follow his/her recommendations first. One of my "mentors" during the beginning of SR had problems with sleep maintenance and I know that she used the same schedule/routine that I did and had success. Maybe you should try your sleep specialist's recommendations but also discuss with him/her the 12-6 schedule that other people have had success with and see what they think. The most important rule though is to be diligent with whatever schedule you are doing - I think veering off (your 2:30-4:30 night) is a bad idea because when you are doing a "militant" (as it's been called on this website) version of SR, success is based on really being 1000% committed to the schedule.
GOOD LUCK - you are on the right track with this. If you can get some answers from your specialist - maybe her theory on how the staying up all night aspect will work compared to the 12-6, it'll help.
