MKO,

Thanks for your post.
Her (sleep dr.) idea is to cause such sleep deprivation and exhaustion that you would eventually sleep BUT I was sort of keeping this kind of schedule naturally before and getting nowhere. Only difference is that I would lay in bed or on the couch and maybe catch a few more hours of sleep IF I was lucky.
I totally agree about having a regular schedule ESPECIALLY a regular wake-up time. This way I have none..no clue what time I am supposed to get out of bed or even attempt to go to bed (only when I am tired). This is much to loose a schedule for me. As I stated in another post, my first 2 nights I fell asleep around 10:00ish and awake a few hours later. First night went back to sleep for one hour and got out of bed at 4:30. Second night 10:00 - 2:00 got out of bed. Third night 10:00 - 4:00 with 6 hours of pretty good sleep with a few brief awakenings. This was defintely a good night for me. Last night (after the 6 hour night) was so bad...I went to bed at 10:00 and couldn't get to sleep until 1:00, slept to 2:00 and was awake the rest of the night. I have no clue why. I will see how I fare in the next couple of nights. My sleep dr. did say that we could try the 12 - 6:00 scheduleing if this didn't work. I have to give this one a try although in my 10 months of chronic insomnia I have never had a night that I slept only 1 hour. This feels so bad.
