Yes, insomnia is torture.

It's difficult to advise you because you don't mention how long this has been going on.

Be assured that, if you decide to go the pharmaceutical route, there are a wide variety of medications available that can help you. If this is your decision, then I suggest seeing a psychiatrist, rather than a regular MD.

If you decide not to take medication, there are also techniques to use that might help you sleep. Meditation...relaxation response...sleeo restriction.

You could investigate old Forums and learn about what others have tried. This might help you make a decision.
