I too experienced not feeling sleepy the more I did not get sleep. I always thought that it was my heightened state of adrenalin pumping. I needed the adrenalin to keep me going through the day at work, etc. I was so stressed, however, that I could not relax. I think it is a lack of relaxation that does not allow for sleepiness. I often was amazed how I never seemed to yawn anymore. Thank goodness this has become better. I can increase this feeling of relaxation and yawning, by meditation or listening to relaxation tapes. Also, taking a deep breath, holding it, and then letting it out really slow leads to yawning. I do this several times to increase the sleepy feeling. It doesn't always work, but it certainly helps.
