These are the things I do to stay positive:
1. I keep my muscles moving to control the defeatest babble of my brain. I rarely sit down, clean out closets, etc.
2. I try not to remain alone with my thoughts. I visit friends, family, or interact with people on the internet. (including this Forum) I hang around with children when I can.
3. I think of how "tough" I am becoming...philosophically and physically. Just like a marine! I read the Stoics.
4. I use insomnia as a spiritual "guru" to teach me discipline, detachment, compassion, courage, and, most importantly, the difference between mind and spirit. At the moment, my mind wants to be depressed and my body wants to be anxious, but, my will and spirit insist upon looking at the bright side of things and refuses to let the mind or body take command. I'm learning that the WILL is powerful, indeed, and this inspires me.
5. I'm trying to strengthen my faith, which, in essence, is to trust that the Universe is meaningful and what I do matters. This belief...as are all beliefs...is a choice. I'm trying to "unlearn" the assumption that the greatest accomplishment in life is to be comfortable and content, and that it is more important to learn wisdom and love.
5. I try to reach out and help others who are suffering.
