I have used Ambien on and off for over a year now. I am not sure of long term affects to the body. I've never had memory loss or black outs but some people have these experiences. I have a love/hate relationship with Ambien. It is hell getting off of it if you have used it for a while. Cut your dose a little at a time for 2 or 3 days until you are down to a very small amount. It can cause re-bound insomnia for a while but it will pass. Amitriptyline is well known for causing weight gain. I suggest two books to you:
Desperately Seeking Snoozin
Say Goodnight to Insomnia. They are wonderful and can help you understand inosmnia and how to overcome it or at least deal with it. Good Luck! Keep us posted on your progress. We love to hear success stories.
