The celexa, as you probably know, is for depression. The insomnia that typically accompanies depression is the type where you wake up after a few hours of sleep and can't get back to sleep. The antidepressant will take care of that by renormalizing the natural chemicals in your brain. It will, however, take about 2 weeks (maybe more) before it starts to works.
I would imagine that a doctor would prescribe the Ambien to help in the 2-3 weeks before the anti-depressant kicked in. After that the Ambien should be tapered off and then completely discontinued.
So if your are having the type of insomnia I first described, just hold on, you will be sleeping well soon. even if you aren't, you should still wait and see if the anti-depressant helps. I also think it would be a good idea to taper off the Ambien soon.
