Yes, it does have to do with chemical imbalance in the brain. I had trouble getting to sleep, I had many wakenings during the night, and also wakened too early in the morning. My sleep was a wreck and I felt awful. Insomnia is usually a symptom of something else. My insomnia was caused by atypical mood changes (a type of depression). Depression like insomnia comes in many shades and flavors. You may not feel depressed, but still may have some kind of mood disorder caused by chemical imbalance in the brain. My doctor gave me Trazodone which is a sedating antidepressant. I now sleep normally. I fall asleep, have one wakening to use the bathroom, then go back to sleep for the remainder of the night. PTL!! I never thought my sleep would be this good again. I'm here to tell you there is help and you can recover from nsomnia.
