driving

Posted by helen on July 25, 2000 at 05:45:14:

I have a pattern of insomnia that others have mentioned: poor or no sleep for 3 or 4 days followed by 2 or 3 good nights and the cycle repeats. I am trying to use the sleep restriction method over the past 10 days. I worry about driving the car. I do not feel sleepy during the day--can't nap even if I wanted to. Nevertheless am concerned that in some way I might be impaired. However, if I was to stop driving I would become a shut-in, would have to give up activities that I've always enjoyed, would feel like an invalid. Wondered if there are recommendations about assessing one's own fitness to operate a vehicle.
