seroquel used to treat insomnia??

Posted by erin on July 27, 2000 at 22:04:59:

my doctor gave me samples of seroquel today to treat my insomnia. i have not slept since sunday night, and it is now late thursday night.

seroquel is an antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia. i am not schizophrenic. i just cannot sleep. it was mentioned that this would knock me out, and maybe keep me from going psychotic due to lack of sleep.

i don't understand though. why would he give me an antipsychotic for insomnia? is this common; has someone else had this??

i am reading up on seroquel all night, and i am very nervous about taking it. is this medication choice justified?
