What comes to mind is Sonata. This supposedly is the only sleeping med that allows you to take it only a few hours before you intend to wake up. It has only a short half-life, meaning it gets out of your system faster.

Be advised, however, that Sonata doesn't work for a lot of people. I tried it, and didn't think it was effective, at least in the dose I was taking.

Also I don't know of any potential problems in mixing Ativan with Sonata. I have mixed ativan with ambien, and my internist says it's ok since both are in the same family of drugs, but this is something you need to check out.
