Your father needs to find out what the root cause of his problem his. Why did the doctor prescribe this medicine in the first place. The problem with our HMO-system of medicine is that doctors no longer have time to spend with patients so they whip out the note pad and start prescribing medicine like there is no tommorrow.

XANAX, for one, is terribly addicting. LEt's say your father takes XANAX, and then has to go out of town on business. Leaving in a hurry, he forgets to pack his XANAX. He won't be sleeping until he returns home because his body will be so used to XANAX that he won't be able to sleep with out. Not a good situation.

Your father needs to have a physical to determine what his sleep problems are. Is he middle-aged and overweight, and does he snore. Perhaps he has sleep apnea which means he stops breathing when he sleeps. Does he have a thyroid problem which disrupts his sleep. Does he drink too much coffee during the day. He must get to the root of the problem. Sleep problems are usually a symptom of an underlying problem. Please provide us an update. Thank you for writing in.
