Yes, I know what hypnophobia is like. For me, it was a fear...sometimes overwhelming....of going to sleep. Not a fear of sleep itself as much as the fear of gradually losing consciousness. And that fear contributed to an already existing problem of insomnia. As if things weren't bad enough!

The only thing that really helped was ativan. I imagine that valium would do the same thing.

This fear seems to be subsiding, and most of the time it is not there. But it is a fascinating thing, very little is known about it.

I imagine your confusion is related to underlying anxiety, of whatever form. Some confusion is normal upon awakening, as we realize we are no longer in the dream state. It generally goes away quickly, however.

Ever try any of the tranquilizers? As a short term remedy they can work wonders.
