Insomnia with birth control pills? waking several times

Posted by Babs on July 31, 2000 at 10:06:34:

Hi - I'm a happy 47 yr. old, who never had a sleeping problem until...4 years ago started taking Zoloft; Initially, had some insomnia, which stopped after 2 weeks. Zoloft and I slept through the night for two years .. Was sleeping fine for 8 hours! Then... enter taking birth control pills... (Ereostep - low dose) 2 years ago started taking birth control pills (after 10 year off them) Noticed Side effect of waking a couple times per night; Doctor prescribed Ambiem for a couple of weeks - I stopped due to hearing of possible addiction. Since then, I haven't been sleeping through the night for the last couple of years - but 2 times per night didn't bother me that much. However, currently my Insomnia (?) is getting worse! I'm waking up every hour!!I can fall sleep quickly, but not stay asleep! Has anyone heard of:
Birth control pills causing sleep problems if you take them later in life? Or, is onset of sleep problems a pre-menospausal syndrome? Or, is this the effect of taking Zoloft for 4 years? Help! I see a new HMO doctor on Friday and would like some advise from the masses who are up at 12:00...1am, 2am, 3am, 4am.... thanks! Babs
