It is true that human are designed to sleep when it is dark and be awake when it is light. In fact, certain neurotransmitters are secreted based on how much light you are exposed to. Before electricity was discovered, we slept more in the winter and less in the summer.
If you are, in fact, just responding to light which shines in through your windows you could probably fix this by sealing up your windows very well. Even if you need to tape something to cover up the windows, this would be worth it to sleep better.
