Blocking out all light may help you and you also might consider (given that you've got "enough" sleep before waking at aroung 5am) using the time after waking to do some meditation (sitting, etc.). This can be a good way, with some training to hone the skill, to transition into the day with a clear, attentive mind, while also resting the mind though you wouldn't techncally be sleeping. You might even create a daily ritual out of it which helps you focus and prepare for the day. Meditation can be a powerful thing with great long-term positive effects (which may even help you sleep longer and deeper, too).
