I have taken Ativan for a year at 8mgs a day which is fairly high. I take it for muscle spasms, prescribed by ortho doc., and it seems to help with sleep as far as spasms are concerned.

I have experimented with radically decreasing the dosage and have had success doing it *very gradually* (1 mg/wk for *me*). I tried to get off Valium (was actually changed from V to Ativan by the same doctor) and did so in a week and had terrible effects. I have never been physically dependent on a drug before, but now I know what it feels like and it is terrible. I could not open doors, could barely get dressed, and there was terrible pain, non-stop. If it wasn't for the Ativan, I would have lost my mind. One more day and I could not have been able to get out of bed. That was scarry as hell!!
