Dave....As far as I am concerned any sleeping pill or bezodiazapene is addictive. I took Ambien for a month when I was trying to withdraw from Xanax and I then became addicted to the Ambien....After you stop taking any medication for sleep your body goes through rebound insomnia, and sometimes it is worse than it was in the beginning...You see your body is very intelligent and if you are feeding it something it says "Hey I am getting alot of this down here so I better stop producing this" consequently, when you go off of it your body has to take time to realize that it is not getting the chemical it was used to and has to start producing it again...So your best bet if you don't want to become addicted, although it sounds as you already
are, stop if you can. Benadryl is an antihistamine and does nothing more than make you groggy.Good luck to you....
