insomnia & depression

Posted by Nancy on October 29, 2000 at 18:40:49:

I having been taking amitriptline for about fifteen years. Last year my doctor retired, and i decided to stop taking this medication. after the effects wore off I got to where I couldnt sleep, I went for about 6 months getting only about an hour or two of sleep a week. I finally had a nervious breakdown. I wound up having to see a psychiatrist. He started me taking remaron, trazodone and ambien. I kept getting worse, the medicine did not help. I got a little more sleep, but I had a real bad reaction to this medicine. My husband convinced the doctor to put me back on the amitriptyline. He put me on 25 mg and built the dosage back up too 100mg the insomina wasnt any better. So i called the doctor and he put me on a very low dose of clonazepham. Finally I started to get a decent nights sleep. Some times I go for several nights without sleep, It is like my mind overrides my sleep. The doctors tell tell me that I have a chemical inbalance. The thought of having to take this medicine for the restof my life is depressing. It leaves me feeling druugged I have to drive 25 miles to work every day Has anyone out there had any simular experiences. If so what happened to you.
