Nancy... how long have you had insomnia? I am 51 and have had insomnia for 4 years now...Is it possible you are perimenopausal or menopausal? The hormonal imbalance caused by perimenopause can last up to 8 years before menopause..Even if you have had insomnia before the estogen progesterone problem could be the icing on the cake...Have you had your hormones checked recently? Usually at this stage there is estrogen dominance and not enough progesterone to balance it...You can take it naturally with wild yam cream..My sister and many friends have had insomnia for years and after taking hormones they are sleeping like a babies...I had mind tested a year ago and they were fine but many things go on subclinicallly so it is questionable...I don't know how you feel about the hormone issue....The major player in insomnia is the compulsive worry. It must be extinguished.I know how devestating this whole thing is. I had raging insomnia that I slept 10-20 hours a week for about a year....Unfortunately I have been on xanax for 1 and a half years and I am trying to get off of it, but it is difficult because of the fear of getting back to being a total zombie. I still have difficult nights and difficult weeks but gradually as I have let go of the worry it seems more manageable...I am an astrologer and there are definitely periods in life where there are adverse aspects to the mind,
for many reasons, one being an awakening or calling to a higher consciousness. Please try to relax. Take deep breaths and bring prana into you... Shallow breathing just makes you more anxious...I have also been doing hypnosis...I went to a hypnotist who made up personal tapes and I play them once in the morning, and at night when I go to sleep...They seem to me very helpful....Take care Hope
