Tom...I have had what I call garden variety insomnia for four years, not being able to fall asleep, than waking up many times during the night, than always waking up between four and five for good. Thinking back ,my whole life I have been an early riser but never paid much attention to it because I slept deeply and peacefully and always woke up refreshed...Do you also get tired very early? My problem is if I get tired at 8:30 and if I don't go to sleep, I miss the train and am up forever. Regardless of what time I go to sleep I awake the same time. This doesn't bother me if I have had a full night sleep. Before the time change I was waking up anywhere form 4:30 t0 5:30. That was much better...The only thing to do they say is to sit under bright lights at night to extend your day, and then be in total darkness in the early morning hours...I have a room darkener and it is pitch black and yet I still awaken..I can't seem to understand what your problem is...Do you fall asleep early? Wake up many times during the night?Or do you just wake up early in the morning? Are you anxious, depressed or just stressed? Winding down at night is very important.. I try to read peacefully for a couple of hours...If I watch an intense movie,or have an exciting conversation I am overstimulaed already..How long have you had this? Can you elininate the thing that is stressing you out? Or at least make viable changes? Take care...Hope
