My heart goes out to you, and I do want to commend you and your husband for seeking counseling. That in itself is a good sign that both want and are willing to try to make things better. Let me say that no one wants or likes the diagnosis of depression. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain even if it is caused by life events. Depression causes problems in relationships and many times skews your thinking. When I'm depressed I perceive things/situations differently. I want to encourage you to seek treatment for your depression. I know antidepressants get a bad rap, but may be just what you need to get better. Don't be afraid to at least give them try. Trazodone, a sedating antidepressant, has worked trememdously well for me. I was afraid of them too, and purchased a good PDR before trying any of them (you can also check out drugs on the web). I do not take any drug blindly, but check out the possible side effects and reactions so I know what to look for. A good psychiatrist will start you out with a very small dose to see how you are going to react to a certain drug before bringing you up to a clinical dosage. A book that helped me when I was diagnosed is "Understanding Depression A Complete Guide to its Diagnosis & Treatment" by Donald E. Klein, M.D. and Paul H. Wender, M.D. published by Oxford University Press. It is only 180 pages and very affordable. My life is much better now thanks to a very understanding doctor and Trazodone. I hope you get the help you need also, so you can better focus on your marriage and family. Blessings to you, and God Bless!!!
