Fatigue unless alarm clock ends sleep

Posted by Samuel on November 06, 2000 at 09:28:27:

After several years of not sleeping well due to shift work,
I finally returned to working days and expected that I
would sleep better. Instead, I seem to be playing a game
with the alarm clock. I will wake up 1 to 4 times a night
and if my alarm clock wakes me up, I will be groggy for
a few seconds but will feel good all day. If I wake up even
five minutes before the alarm goes off, I will have fatigue
that is similar to losing 2 or 3 hours of sleep. A sleep
deficit will increase the number of awakenings so I will
try to go to bed earlier, but heaven forbid if I wake up
to early. Some books I've read say depression could be
the cause, but I don't have any other symptoms of this.
I went to a sleep clinic but they found nothing that they
commonly know how to treat, so they gave me sleeping pills
only to decide later on that they didn't want to continue
this.
