Clinical depression refers to the fact that the depression is able to be seen by the MD in a clinical setting. Sub-clinical is something that has no clear, apparent symptoms.
Certainly your depression is legitimate!! This does not mean it should therefore not be treated! Treatment could be 'talk therapy' and/ or medication. The combo works best for most, but talk therapy alone works well for many people.
You have very common misconceptions re depression. It is not 'all in your head'. The chemical imbalance can be either from the conditions or from the thoughts - usually both, by reinforcing each other.
Depression is not about being grumpy or "woe is me" or even being negative. It's about feeling hopeless and empty - however valid the reasons.
I encourage you to read more about depression and to get treatment for this episode!!
Good luck with everything!!
