I don't know anything about the background of this disagreement, but I'm sure everyone's intent is to help. At any rate, the point of this message is *not* to enter the fray. I just want to add some more experiential evidence to the board as people try to figure out what's best for them.

My mom was sleeping 2-4 hrs a night (4 was a good night, and cause for celebration). She was completely exhausted at work and began taking benzos prescribed to her by her doctor. One by one, they all stopped working. In the meantime, there were horrible new developments. For the first time in her life my mom experienced panic attacks. She also had heart palpitations, chest pain, dizziness. She had none of these things before the benzos. She was tired, but she worked every day, saw friends, etc. Now she is jobless and housebound. She has been off of benzos for about 3 months now (it took a couple months to taper off of only 5mg. Valium), and some of the worst symptoms are subsiding. But her insomnia is as bad as ever.

Las summer someone on this board directed me to info about BZD's, and I am eternally indebted to that person. We had no idea what was happening to my mom and we were scared out of our minds. At least now she understands what's going on, and she has some hope of getting back to where she was before the meds.

P.S. Stuff like valerian, Tylenol PM, etc. had no effect back when she was on or between benzos, but they work a little now. Maybe people should try these first.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone.
