Posted by Judy on February 20, 2001 at 17:32:38:Hi, I've been taking Prozac for about 6 months now and have had insomnia since I started the prescription. I love my sleep and I have NEVER had a problem sleeping (even just prior to taking Prozac). Even at the very beginning (with my depression), I found that I could easily get to sleep at night. But now, my mind just won't shut off. I lie there in bed and my mind is racing thinking about what I need to do the following day or week, or I start to think about what I'll wear the next day or very minor things that I usually don't think about when I'm trying to sleep.
Is this a side effect of Prozac ??? I don't want to start taking sleeping tablets and have resorted to having hot milk drinks before bed, but I don't want to make this a habit.
I have such a resless sleep during the night and then wake up early hours of the morning (about 3am or 4am) and don't go back to bed till about 5:30am and then I'm awake again at 6:30am - 7:00am. I have never been awake this early in my entire life!!!! As I said before I LOVE my sleep and usually require 8+ hours a day to function properly. My eyes are sooooo tired, but I do find that I have the energy to keep going and but my brain just won't turn off.
Has anyone else had this sort of problem ????
