Posted by Hope Master on March 11, 2001 at 03:25:03:For all of you who are struggling to get off of Benzodiazapenes with little withdrawal effects,I would like to say that it is entirely possible if done correctly. I weaned myself down from 1 mg to about .06 mg over a four month period reducing the dose by .12 every two weeks. I had some minimal withdrawal symptoms as I lowered the dose as sore muscles and joints, and mild headaches but nothing too intolerable. I finally stopped taking them and substituted a supplement called Sure Sleep which is a combination of Chinese Herbs and 5HTp. I have been sleeping for 2 weeks now without the meds.I still have early morning insomnia and wake up usually around 4:00 but it feels so wonderful not to be taking the xanax I don't even care. I go to sleep by 10:00 so I usually get from 6 to seven hours of sleep and that is fine with me..Of course I would love to be able to sleep to a normal hour but that may not be ordered for me in this lifetime. So I am thankful for what I have at this point and not what I don't have. It may have been easier for me since I took xanax exclusively for sleep and not for anxiety so I cannot say that those who have anxiety will not have it recur. I also want to mention , and I have posted about this before, but I feel that the thing that allowed me to be able to get off of the meds was the fact that I went through a series of colonics. Before I had the colonics it was impossibe to stop but after having them I noticed suddenly I was able to sleep with smaller amounts and then none at all. I definitely feel that the colonics allowed my body to be able to digest food and assimilate the nourishment , allowing neurotransmission for sleep. I can say this with complete authority. The bottom line is that I can hardly believe how much better I feel since I am not taking Xanax anymore. I feel alive again. My body does not feel heayy and logey and the energy in my body is moving through me correctly. I am able to open my eyes immediately in the morning instead of around four o' clock in the afternoon. I thank God for this. I hope all of you who are taking meds that are not working for you anyway will try to taper off of them. I think that good sleep results when the body has a chance to process correctly without the drugs. I know that I have used the xanax ouf of deep fear and desperation and sometimes it is necessary to do what you have to do maintain your sanity. But I feel that in the end it is much wiser and life enhancing to not take the meds. I wish all of you luck who want to detox from whatever medicaiton you are on. Sincerely, Hope
