Are all benzodiazepines addictive?

I shall be seeing a doctor next week I believe he is going to prescribe some kind of benzo-diazepine but don't know what yet.
Are all these medications addictive?
Is it possible to take them only if & when you really need them or do they have to be taken all the time to be effective?
I'd like to know more before seeing the doctor.
