Sedating Antidepressants

Posted by john on March 18, 2001 at 23:33:32:

My doctor has just prescribed Paxil to help me sleep. I have tried a number of antidepressants (Zoloft, Cipramil, Remeron, Trazadone) and as yet none has had a noticeable effect on sleep or mood.

As Paxil is an SSRI like Zoloft and Ciprimal, is there any point in trying it? Has anyone found they did not respond to one SSRI but did another? I am reluctant to endure the side effects of starting and problems with stopping another antidepressant, unless there was at least a chance of it helping, especially as it seems Paxil causes insomnia in some cases. I don't think I'm depressed, although it seems others think the same until their depression lifts.

Thanks in advance for any advice

John
