i'm insomniac, blackout, DSPS, question --HELP

Posted by melissa on March 19, 2001 at 17:36:43:

hi i'm an insomniac suffering delayed sleep phase syndrome. I never seem to get that "sleepy head feeling" I used to get when i was still a good sleeper for about two years now. My insomnia began at the start of my junior college during breaks. I can only begin fall asleep when it's 3-5 in the morning, and it's not because I get that healthy "sleepy" feeling, but because I am so tired from lying awake. Although I am able to sleep 8hours after that, I know that the quality of deep sleep I get is different.

Anyway, I am suspecting that a certain episode of "blackout" is the root problem of my insomnia as it may be connected to damaged sleep center in my brain. That maybe the reason why i don't and unable to get that healthy sleepy feeling anymore.

Anyway, my question is, can you guys still think "clearly" and "intensely" even if you're insomniac? In my experience, eversince that "blackout" episode of mine came into the [picture, not only did I become "insomniac", but my thinking process deteriorated abit. For illustration, I can't perform an orals exam impromptu anymore because for certain I will be speechless. I have to prepare the things I would say before the exam whereas before I could do it impromptu and even do better.

I guess I just want to make a survey and really know where I'm at now, or at least understand better and correctly my insomnia. My dad passed out after his liver veins broke because of his cirrhosis which he suffered for at least 10years. Despite the fact that his health deteriorated for ten years now, and despite the fact that he's passed out big time, in the bathroom, fora long time, he still get the good nights sleep and never experienced insomnia. OK, although he got a new liver through transplantation, and is doing well, not that I want him to be an insomniac too, but I can't understand why I am suffereing so much from insomnia right now while my dad's like a log when he sleeps. It's so unfair that I can\'t sleep. What makes things worse is Idon't know the reason why, at least I could know, I repeat at least, so that I can do something about it. I've tried light therapy to correct my "circadian ryhtm", in failure, maybe very slight improvement.

Anyway, going back to my original purpose to posting here, I'd like to know what is your thingking process profile?
REgards to all ofya!
