I have done similar things at nite when I should be sleeping. I think I have DSPS and it gets more pronounced when my depression or anxiety is worse.
I used to frequently finish the book, but am now better at stopping when tired and avoiding the more interesting books for bedtime reading.
Try bright light in the morning and the other DSPS suggestions. If your racing mind continues and/or if the thots are persistently anxious or negative, be screened for a mood disorder.
I'm doing a lot better. Hope you find some things that help you! Good luck!
