I believe it is important that everyone can express their opinion regardless of whether i agree with it or not. When a doctor prescribes ambien for a time period longer than 10 days and informs you that it is okay to take ambien on a long term basis without any ill effects;who am i to question their medical expertise! I was originally prescibed 10mg of ambien and after 15 months on the same 10mg dosage I was beginning to experience extremely negative side effects.I have never taken more than the 10mg prescription dosage of ambien each night. In the last month ,I have managed to reduce my ambien dosage to 5mg per night. In my opinion, even when i sleep six hours on the ambien,i don't feel rested. I'm still very irratable, foggy, lethargic and tired. I think most chronic insomniacs are looking for a long term solution and it is irresposible and unethical for a doctor to prescribe ambien for long term use. I feel it is my duty to inform the chronic insomniac about the dangers of taking ambien long term.Irrability, blackouts, anger, lack of enthusiasm, memory loss, accidents, physical and psychological addiction, bizzare thoughts and behavior and spiritual emptiness are all common side effects of taking ambien long term. But only you can decide if this supposed miracle sleeping pill is worth taking. God Bless Scott M
