Roger...... Your Post on 3/22/2001 struck a personal chord with me. "People who badmouth ambien are usually those who abuse it, or take it on a long term basis" Before I started taking ambien, I was sleeping 0-2 hours per night for roughly 6 months. As you can imagine, I was on the edge and very desperate for sleep. The ambien worked instantly for me. I slept between 7-8 hours for 2 weeks. I stopped taking the ambien the next week and i was unable to sleep at all. I made another doctors' appointment and my doctor assured me that i could take the ambien on a long term basis without any adverse effects. Based on my personal experience with ambien over the last 15 months,I have noticed that the negative side effects outweigh the sedative side of ambien. Once again when i tried to stop taking ambien completely i found that i coudn't sleep at all. I suspect that my body is physically addicted to the ambien. My MESSAGE IS FOR THE CHRONIC INSOMNIAC WHO IS ON THE EDGE AND IS DESPERATE FOR SLEEP. AMBIEN IS NOT FOR YOU!!! Ambien is meant for people who occasionally can't sleep for a day or two. The person who lost their job or loved one and need something to help them sleep for a 7-10 day period. The doctors won't tell you this but ambien is not meant for the REAL CHRONIC INSOMNIAC WHO SUFFERS DAY AFTER DAY AND WEEK AFTER WEEK AND MONTH AFTER MONTH AND YEAR AFTER YEAR! The cognitive-behavioral approach combined with various relaxation techniques have proven to be the most effective remedy for treating chronic insomnia.
