Eliza, there are many people the world over who have problems sleeping, so you are not alone in your fears. Many people equate sleep with death because as small children they may have heard at a funeral that so and so is sleeping peacefully, and their little subconscious minds register sleep=death. I don't know if this happened to you but it did to me. Also, with all the horror movies, etc. out there now, I'm sure many young children are afraid of monsters or something bad happening to them when they're asleep.
