Restoril and Ambien

Posted by Joan on May 25, 2001 at 05:47:45:

I need advice. I've had sleep problems for well over 2 years. I've seen all the doctors, done sleep restriciton, seen a sleep specialist, done biofeedback and so on. I got better for a while. My problem was falling asleep until a couple of weeks ago. I am seeing a psychiatrist that has been really conservative with me on prescribing medicine. He started me on Remeron at first with Ambien for sleep. I did well for a while and then came off both medicines. I was doing just fine until two weeks ago. I started waking up early. I got very upset every night when this happened. Many nights I couldn't get more than 3 hours. I got depressed again. I do this everytime I have an insomnia spell. I get very very depressed and want to die many times. If I am sleeping, I feel great. My therapist told me to go back to the Ambien. I did. It didn't work. He then put me on Restoril at 15 mg. He also started me on Serzone. This was after I started the waking up thing. The 15 mg of Restoril didn't work. He told me to start taking 30 mg. I am so scared of addiction. I've been taking 30 mg for 6 days. It is still working well. My doctor is closely monitoring me. My question is this...when the 10 days are up that they say is the safe range for these drug...should I go back to Ambien? Should I trust that my doctor knows what he is doing. I have until now. Will the Ambien work better now that I've been off of it for almost a week? Any advice?
