Insomnia-Klonipin and Provigil`

Posted by Laura Eckard on May 31, 2001 at 10:44:08:

I have been taking Klonipin .5 mg for over 6 months now and it seems not to be working at all with my chronic insomnia. If I keep a regular schedule, I can often fall asleep by 12am, but need excessive amounts of sleep, wake up tired, headachy, cannot get out of bed in the mornings although I may have slept or even if I wake up really really early. I've been put on Provigil 200mg for the past 3 months-my physician left town, did not monitor the dose. I was never able to get a follow-up appointment with the doctor either. I am without any doctor. I am on birth control pills to regulate hormones and to keep me from getting severely sick from my irregular periods and since taking Provigil, the birth control pills no longer help and I am extremely ill most of the time. It's like they're not working anymore. Also, now my migraines have increased severely and last for 2 weeks or more centered around my cycle. No doctors can see me before early to late August and I don't know what to do about the Provigil. I'm EXTREMELY sensitive to medications and often have to be given a child's dosage or less to start out, but my uncaring doctor started me out at 200mg, which scared me. He offered me NO information on the drug either and I am not yet diagnosed with narcolepsy. Now I've stopped taking it on my own accord, and haven't for the past week and a half. Ever since I've stopped, I've experienced severe problems breathing and I'm wondering if it's Provigil related. I'm desparate for help and to find a doctor. I've lost my job, quit school, and given up on a normal lifestyle because of my sleep problems. Is there anyone out there in a similar bind? I would love to hear your story-I feel so alone and helpless-I welcome anyone's advice!!! Please respond if you have ANY information or advice/experiences on these two drugs, chronic insomnia, and trouble getting into the system of doctors! Thanks.
