Are barbiturates still used for insomnia?

Posted by Shawn on June 07, 2001 at 22:58:18:

Do MD's ever prescribe barbiturates, like Seconal or Nembutal, for insomniaanymore? I know they were popular in the 1960's but fell out of favor in the late 1970's because of addiction problems, but some older friends tell me that nothing since has ever come close to helping their insomnia like the barbs did. Hell, do the drug companies even make the stuff anymore? And if so, do many pharmacies carry the stuff?
