No, and I'll tell you why. Doctors are now under watch by their boards and the state - and the advance of the internet has made it possible for them to know every script a doctor fills. Perscribing certain drugs raises flags, so a doctor is only going to give out such a drug in extream cases. Plus, the drugs were too addictive. Valium, a benzo, really replaced most of those drugs.
Phenobarbital went on to treat cats and dogs, and humans, for siezures. But barbs are very hard on the body producing major liver problems and cancer. If a doctor tried to give me a barb for sleep I would find a new doctor.
