Well, there is something to be said about "night owls" which you did not confess to, but I read between the lines. People (like me) who don't start funtioning till 5 at night and are at their peak around 11pm generally have internal clocks different from the norm. This is fine, except we have to live in a world where the normal person goes to sleep just as we hit our stride.
Without pills I cannot sleep till around 5 in the morning, which is just a pain.
In these cases our internal clock can be reset by the use of light therepy, or slowly shifting our sleep patterns over the course of a few weeks. It doesn't work for everyone (like me who shift works) Pills are nice because it makes the sleep process simple. But the trade off is, natural sleep is far more refreshing and chemicals do mess with our bodies.
