I had quite a lot of success with Elavil. Taken in low doses, it doesn't act as a traditional antidepressant (typically doses around 200mg are needed for the drug to work as an antidepressant). Instead, low doses of the drug stimulate production of seratonin which can facilitate deeper and more restorative sleep.
Some people also find that Elavil acts as a sedative (ie makes you drowsy/groggy) but I never found this effect at low doses (10mg-25mg).I took Elavil for 8 years and it did wonders for allowing me to sleep well. For various reasons its not working for me anymore, but it was great while it lasted.
