Posted by Sleep-deprived!! on June 14, 2001 at 08:34:40:Hi,
I am happy to find this place!!! I have had insomnia all my life even as a child. I am 38 now and in the last 5 years it has caught up with me. My memory, hormones (lack of periods) weight gain, depression, and poor mental judgement while driving is the end result. I am tired of talking to Drs. that tell me you are depressed here is some paxil, or just go home and drink herb tea...I drink sleepy time, warm milk, over the counter sleep aids, you name it I"ve tried it but there is nothing to subsitute for a normal nights sleep. Sleeping normal for me means, sometimes its 4 hours sometimes 5, but very inconsistent or I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. Neither can I sleep during the day. I am not depressed though anxiety and depression happens as a result of never getting normal rest!!! In the last couple of weeks my driving judgments have been very affected. I am trying to be careful but I think the long term affects of non sleep are not helping. I have received a ticket not for speeding but for trying to get out of the carpool lane and getting out at the last moment and crossing the yellow lines slightly (no one would let me out!) Then the other day, I had an auto accident and totalled my car when I slammed into the back of another. IT was very bad, I have brusises and bumps allover my torso. The lady infront of me seems ok, but I just didn't see her stop! This is so upsetting to me. While I was in the hospital I asked the DR, to please give me something for sleep and told him years ago I took Elavil at night. I am taking 10 mgs at night now and sleeping better. Still not a perfect 8 but better than before and so far no side affects. I don't want to gain weight, is there anyone who takes it or anything else that is helping you, and what if any side affects.
Thanks for reading.
