Mike,
Having read many of your posts, I think Anita mentioned your name specifically because of the tendency to condemn potential treatment for people. You of all people (being a defender of Ambien) should know that some things work for you and others don't, and it's the same for other people. Don't condemn Elavil--especially when you adamantly proclaim it's an SSRI when it's not--because it may work for somebody and give them relief from their sleep problems. (Do better research next time!) I think this forum is to supposed to promote helping people find something that works. It's helpful to note that Ambien worked for you and SSRI's did not, as it is helpful to note Ambien did nothing for me and Elavil did. Only the patient and their doctor can evaluate potential treatments, their effectiveness and their side effects. Perhaps if you offered your views in a more suggestive way as opposed to something akin to the Surgeon General's warning on cigarettes, there would be less fear, intimidation and possible retaliation as a result.

This is just a suggestion, not meant to be a personal attack, but you did ask why you were mentioned specifically in Anita's posting. You are obviously entitled to express your opinions in the manner you so desire. I'd sure hate to scare someone off from trying something that could help them just because I had a negative opinion about it, and that's pretty much what you're doing. Maybe take it down a notch or two and remember that we're all not alike when it comes to medications and their effectiveness.

Good luck with your continued crusades.
