If you have an idea as to what is causing your insomnia, then you and your Dr. can determine the best course of action. For example, have you always been a poor sleeper,i.e. did something in childhood trigger it? Is your circadian rhythm out of whack because of shift work or excessive travel in different time zones? Is it something in your physical makeup, i.e. biochemical that is out of kilter such as have you been dieting and/or exercising excessively? Or are you a heavy smoker or consumer of alcohol? All these things affect the normal sleep pattern and have to be addressed before the correct mode of remedy is begun. For some people, just some behaviour modification helps, along with cognitive therapy. There are two very good books available through this website and I highly recommend Gregg Jacobs book, "Say goodnight to Insomnia". Hope I've been of some help and don't hesitate to persue this further if you have any questions!!
