It doesn't have to be a sleep specialist to get cognitive behavioral therapy. A good psychologist who specializes in that type of therapy will probably have encountered other insomniacs. You can try asking the sleep centers in your area for referrals and then contact the doctors by phone and ask them what type of therapy they specialize in. Some psychs do not use that approach and it would be good to find out before you waste time and money going to them. I think this website has resources of national associations for anxiety treatment that can probably give you a referral.
What time is your wake up time in the am? I found that choosing a wake up time earlier than I actually needed to get up helped me with sleep restriction for some reason. I guess because then I could allow myself to go to bed earlier at night when I felt so tired, and it was easier to force myself up in the am when I had a least a few hours of sleep. The first week or two was the hardest, but it does get easier. Your body is going to take the sleep it needs one of these nights. Hang in there-- I hope you can find a good therapist to help you.
