Right now, I'm sleeping as good as or better than I ever have. I haven't been the greatest sleeper my whole life but this last bout of insomnia (over a year) led me to some conclusions that have helped in my healing. I think generally insomniacs are very sensitive people and prone to perfectionism. That's why our inner critic works overtime. From what I've observed about good sleepers, the last thing they think about is sleep. Since it's a passive activity, that's the best approach. I'm lucky that I'm retired and since I don't have to worry about getting up at a certain time in the morning I can relax about the pressure of getting to sleep so I can get up at such and such a time. That's the part I disagree with in the sleep restriction bit...I found it added to my anxiety about getting to sleep. Now I don't care when I get to sleep as I sleep as long as I want to and it's usually 7 hours and I feel fine with that.
Also, an inner sense of security is mandatory to let one "drift off". That I can only get with my spiritual readings before bedtime. I can affirm until I'm blue in the face but that final letting go is only possible when I let God run the world and decide He does a better job than I do. Sandman and Sandmama are a big help to Him in providing all of us with the forum to reach out to each other so we don't feel so alone. After all, we are not alone and all of us have the same challenges in this life and by helping each other we help ourselves too. So, hope you can ease up on the problem and have pleasant dreams.....Sheila
