Glad I could help! I am in the midst of a down period right now myself and I am working on it. The one thing I am trying to learn (and see my 4 years and it's still going post-plus the follow ups-they are great!) is not to beat myself up over using the medication-trying too hard not to use it just causes needless anxiety. I think that placebo idea is intriguing, I might try it myself. I totally want off this stuff, and I am working on being patient enough and learning to deal with my anxiety about sleep (which as my doctor says, after 4 years of learned "defense mechanisms" including meds-is not an easy thing to do). So basically right now my game plan is to try to implement positive behavior changes in my daily life in the hopes that they will eventually replace or allow me to lighten up on some of the less positive behaviors I have used as coping mechanisms since this all started. Talk to people who love you about it. When i wake up at night or can't sleep, my husband has become my sounding board..and he always makes me feel better. Find someone, either a friend or family member who you can talk to at night before bed when you're feeling anxious, even some rational discussion on their part can calm you down, and keep you from catastrophizing.

Try reading the 2 books talked about on this site. i have gotten both of them, and while I am not following the program to the letter, I think alot of the information within them is very helpful in teaching you how to mentally "combat" all the scary thoughts we get somewhere between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 am..

And most importantly-and this isn't easy because I am still working on it...just try to be patient with yourself...and take care!
