Sleep anxiety ???

Posted by Sleep deprived on August 23, 2001 at 13:10:20:

In Forum 6 Karen and Karla dercribed a problem just like I have:
Just as I am drifting off too sleep I feel an “explosion” in my chest. It may be an adrenaline rush. It jerks me awake and it is impossible to control as it seems to happen at a falling asleep state where I can’t guide my thoughts – it just happens. My heart is pounding and after I have calmed down again it happens over and over and is driving me crazy. It’s a vicious circle. I’m already tensed up when I go to be now and increasingly during the day, too.

Before the onset of this anxiety my sleep was disturbed/deprived two nights in a row.

Did Karen and Karla find a solution? Does anyone have an explanation?
