Hi..You have the typical pattern of the beginnings of a chronic sleep problem if you don't try right now to change your thought patterns to positive ones. Granted it is only a week but insomnia feeds on itself and will continue if you don't try to get a handle on it right away.I had insomnia for five years and many people here have had insomnia their whole lifetimes, so you see it can be a very insidious thing.I am not an ardent enthusiast for taking medications, but when it is imposibble to sleep for very long periods of time and this is literally destroying every facet of your life including your physical health, it is sometimes better to take medication for a while , at the same time doing other alternative things as meditation, yoga, listening to relaxation tapes, healthy nutrition, formulating a solid exercise program, cognitive therapy, etc. etc, etc...There are many medications that address different problems. Yes many medications are addictive, both physically and psyschologically, and after withdrawing from a medication physically you are often left with the ramifications of psychological addiction.Medications also sometimes cause rebound insomnia after stopping them. Medications also cause a myriad of side effects and unwanted symptoms. Medications often don't work well and have to be constantly adjusted. And in the end there is the guilt and hatred of having to be controlled by a substance to do something that should come so naturally. So there are a host of problems taking medications. But in the end each individual has to make a choice. There are many reasons I feel medications are harmful, at the same time I got stuck taking them on and off for four years. It depends on your tolerance level and frustration level for lack of sleep. My doctor told me that it drives some people crazy and other just go with the flow. Do yourself a favor and try to turn your negative thoughts into positive ones. Say to yourself at the end of the day "I will sleep so good tonight. I am so tired." Take a hot bath a couple of hours before sleep, drink some sleepytime tea, and put on some relaxing music, or read quietly" Try to woo yourself into sleep. I hope you can stop this before it continues. Best of luck Hope
