Hello Gern,

In my last insomnia episode, about 1 - 2 hours into lying awake not sleeping, I almost always had to get up for a BM.

I think this was the initial manifestation of anxiety -- which can certainly stimulate bowel movements. Only later did I show other anxiety signs like pounding heart and so forth. Therefore, it COULD be that your frequent bowel movements are due to anxiety.

Once I recognized this, it only caused me more anxiety, though, especially since I was losing weight and didn't really need to. All these BM's wasn't letting me efficiently digest my food.

I had some rebound anxiety from Ambien. But noticed it immediately the next day after the first time I took it, and you say you've been using it for 5 years.

I suggest you follow the advice of HopeMaster, and discuss this again with your physician. Don't worry too much about the bowel movements unless you have other symptoms that cause you concern.

A.N.
