Posted by Abby N on August 27, 2001 at 09:34:30:Sometimes my insomnia has been a bit worse on Sunday nights but this corresponds to the need to set an alarm or get up at a certain time. If we have a fun thing we're doing on a weekend (like skiing) and need to get up early, I have the same sort of insomnia, so it's not related to work, it's related to needing to get up early.
Here's a few things that have helped me with this.
1. Have your sleeping partner be in charge of the alarm clock and not even tell you what it's set for (this is especially helpful if he plans for us to get up at 5:00 to go skiing or leave for a backpacking trip).
2. Schedule or plan on some wonderful relaxing activity to look forward to Monday evening. Today I have a massage scheduled for right after work, and last night when I had wake-ups I could look forward to that. (I also look forward to Monday Night Football during the fall -- something I'm not particularly proud of).
3. If you have any control over your schedule at all, don't schedule anything at work for Monday, especially for Monday morning. This is easy for me to say right now since this semester I have a break from teaching -- otherwise I'd be lecturing to 100 or so students every Monday at 8:30. Next semester I'll have to come up with something different.A.N.
